Presidential Volunteer Service Award

Volunteer Service Award

president barack obama — 2017 and 2018

An award from the President of the United States for people who complete a significant amount of service in their communities each year.

Much of this service stemmed from working with Friends of Refugees in Clarkston, Georgia in January 2017 to help resettled refugees in the United States prepare for job interviews and look after their children while they were transitioning to life in a new country.

In the fall of 2016, GW launched a student-run food pantry. As a student, James not only uses it as a resource, but also as a place to give back to his peers.

In 2018, James received the gold award for completing more than 250 hours of service. In 2017, he received the bronze award for completing more than 100 hours. His lifetime goal is to complete more than 5,000 hours of service.
